She received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance from California State University, Long Beach where she trained with Ron Brown (Alvin Ailey), Susan McClain (original soloist for Martha Graham), Sharon Kinney (Paul Taylor), Keith Johnson, Sophie Monet and Doug Neilson to name a few of the elite faculty. While in college, Kathryn had the opportunity to spend 6 months in Brazil dancing at the Escola de Danca da Fundacao da Bahia. There she studied Modern dance, Afro-Brazilian dance and Capoeira. She also trained with master technician Rosangela Silvestre, who designed the Silvestre Technique of Modern dance movement. While in Brazil, Kathryn performed in the city of Salvador, Bahia Brazil at a number of local performance venues. She worked with professional musicians in Salvador to develop modern choreography to unique sounds of Afro-Brazilian music.
